It's the
same height as Jesus. And I figure if Jesus bumps into that
thing, we'll all know he's there (because of the banshee
shrieking and all.) Which will give us time to run.
You would not believe the fucking headache I have

They have an upgrade attachment for that. Looks a lot

Well now, as much as we
all may like the idea, you know you are going to have to
submit it either to BORG1 or BORG2, for bureaucratic approval
or democratic selection, repectively.
And why only 900
feet? Cummon...dream big!!! ;) |

BORG2
= SPAM Jm = Dickhead Home Depot = Douchebag
I love how tribe discussions carreen around
from spam (or not spam at all in this case) to welding to the
politics of my local home center...anyway...
I bought
a flux core welder at Harbor Frieght Tools, in Vallejo (you
can also mail order) for around $100, and I'll be damned if
the thing doesn't actually work! I bought it to take to
Burning Man to weld pieces of customers' bike back on, and
because it plugs into 120VAC, and because it is light and easy
to carry around (relative to most welders, that is). My real
welder is big and heavy and wants more volts than I have up on
the playa. I don't know HFT's politics, but even if they are
ultra-right, they aren't anywhere near as big as Home Depot :)
btw - do not expect to weld together big and/or thick
pieces of metal with that welder I just mentioned. I did okay
on some 1/4" mild steel, but I beveled them and had to make
two or three passes.
oh yea, and the mask that comes
with it SUX!!! Get a real helmet before you use it. I tried it
out just to see if it was worth anything - after 15 seconds my
eyes were hurting, bad...scary shit...don't fuck with that -
get a decent helmet!!! |

Here is
the complaint form the mail-spam company and my reply. Mr.
valero continues to refuse to remove his complaint, despite
our correcting every situation he has requested of us.
hopefully this latest round will bring this pathetic
matter to a conclusion. if it does not, i will release his
email address to this tribe and i hope you all will join me in
spamming his email address with porn offers and viagra ads
from machines far and wide until he has to no other choice but
to give up his current email address, which was his spam
concern to begin with.
don't fuck with the BORG2 mr.

have i made
myself clear mr. valero?
i have wasted hours on this

Any new
subscriptions to the BEP list requires confirmation in
response to an email. You may do a test subscription to the
list to confirm this. saucer.spaceship.com/mailman...tinfo/bep
I just subscribed myself using a different email
address and here is the confirm response I got back. Note we
are using mailman to run this list
------------------------------------------------------------------
Mailing list subscription confirmation notice for
mailing list BEP
We have received a request from
dsl081-054-023.dsl-isp.net for subscription of your email
address, "xxxxxxxxxx", to the bep@saucer.spaceship.com mailing
list. To confirm that you want to be added to this mailing
list, simply reply to this message, keeping the Subject:
header intact. Or visit this web page:
saucer.spaceship.com/mailman...firm/bep/76e94c0d89c770d4fd8963d4f8266c7534
Or include the following line -- and only the
following line -- in a message to
bep-request@saucer.spaceship.com:
confirm
76e5b8eb894c0d89c770d4fd8966c7534
Note that simply
sending a `reply' to this message should work from most mail
readers, since that usually leaves the Subject: line in the
right form (additional "Re:" text in the Subject: is okay).
If you do not wish to be subscribed from this list,
please simply disregard this message. If you think you are
being maliciously subscribed to the list, or have any other
questions, send them to bep-owner@saucer.spaceship.com.
------------------------------------------------------------------
The first population of the BEP list with the
names of petition signers was done administratively and did
not have this email confirmation step, as this list was
intended to be the list to communicate with the petition
signers as an announce only list, not a discussion list. The
petition signers offered their email addresses when signing
the petition and therefore reasonably could expect
communication in relation to this petition to return to their
email address.
As explained previously, the list was
only to be used for this purpose. But in fact, it hasn't even
yet been used for that. The only message sent to the list was
from a new subscriber and it mistakenly went through due to a
configuration error on my part that let posts go through to
the list without admin approval. That has now been corrected.
But this is how mr. Valero got the message in the first place.
Your are also welcome to test this by sending a message to the
list after you subscribe to it. you will see that it bounces
back to you.
I hope this is adequate to bring this
rather pathetic complaint to an end. I am disgusted this
individual has tried to take down a fun project about art, run
by amatures doing the best they can, with such petty and
misguided complaints- especially after we have offered to fix
every issue he has had. Can't he spend his efforts to confront
actual spammers offering Viagra, penis enlargement, Nigerian
scams, et al, and not a discussion about art by a relatively
small group of friends that are interested in this topic?
Nonetheless, hours have now been wasted on this non-issue by
me, my friend's server co-op in Austin (spaceship) is now
concerned with how this potential report will propagate, and
now you are having to deal with it.
My question now is
how I can file a complaint about frivolous complaints and
nominate mr. valera's email address as a nuisance email
address, producing "content" less impressive than spam, and
content that should be treated as such by spam filters.
Please include information in your reply about how I
can file such a complaint in regards to mr. valero's actions.
Thank you.

I can
absolutely comfirm this. Good construction = bad destruction.
Witness last year's temple burn. We were putting sheer
plates up the way you do for new home construction. Nails 6"
on center on the edges, 12" center in the field. And the
amount of Simpson hardware, yikes! As we were building it, we
were thinking, fuck this thing is never going to fall down.

Folks, Mr. Valero has us by the cajones.
He is threatening to take us down with a formal
complaint to www.mail-abuse.com/index.html
regarding our email activities on a list that has yet to be
used for anything other than a missent message today due to my
bad config of the list. This is funny. Let's destroy the art
cause you got an unwanted email. You go Mr. Valero.
Impressive. Anyone know this guy so we can go tickle him
without mercy until he relents?
The complaint
investigation department of the above wrote me the note i've
copied below. and then i wrote back as you can see below.
The more i think about this, the more i am convinced
that that devious and wily BORG1 must be behind this somehow.

well evaporate. a real pro move by the BORG1. i'm impressed.

Tyler,
Thank you for your
inquiry. Below you will find the notes I sent to Mr. Valera
when he made his complaint known as well as his note back to
me. In my note, I clarified the origin of the list and asked
for help in resolving any potential problems that we were
having with incorrect subscriptions to our list. I also gave
him my direct phone number to discuss the matter if he wanted
to pursue it any further. I received no further communication
from him and thought we had resolved the issue, but now I find
this note from you.
I believe we have shown good faith
to resolve this odd complaint, a complaint that is happening
over a list concerned with art around the Burning Man event.
There is no commercial product or service related to this list
in any manner. This is simply a list about an art debate out
here in San Francisco. I probably personally know about half
of the people on the list.
I trust my below
explanations below will put this non-issue to rest. If you
have any further questions, you can find me at the email and
phone numbers below.
I have also cc'ed Mr. Valera as
well as the other owner of the list, Chicken John.
Thank you,
Jim

I
propose a petition!!! We can all see that the web is no longer
focused on what it use to be, clearly it has grown in
directions that we didn't start it for. It use to be about
sharing data between militry and educational sites. Now, well
now we have ravers, I mean spammers. I propose we have
people vote on who should get mail and who shouldn't. The
Borg2 alone should not decide, they should open up the process
of deciding who should get spammed and who shouldn't. And,
there should not be any themes behind spam anymore. I'm tired
of having spammers suggest that my tool is too short, I can't
last as long, or I am eligible for loans for people with bad
credit. What happened to spam for spam sakes. Crazy, dangerous
flames like in the old days!!!!

Here are the notes i sent to Mr. Valera.
Jm Valera,
I apologize if you and others were
subscribed to this list without your consent. This list was
formed from the signers of the "we have a dream petition". As
that petition became the borg2, we put all the email addresses
from the petition signers onto this list so we could
communicate with the signers.
This is the first
complaint we have received about faux signups. I would be
curious to get the list of other incorrect signups so I can
correct it.
I will of course remove you and anyone
else who has been wrongly subscribed somehow. Maybe someone
wrongly entered your email address on the petition. Mistakes
of course are made. People can be devious. But there is no
wholesale harvesting of email addresses happening here. No
forwarding of your email address is happening. The list is
only the people who signed the petition plus new people that
are signing up for the borg2. there are about 30 new people a
day. The original email list from the petition was about 600,
despite over 1000 names. Many didn't put email addresses, of
course.
Sorry again for any inconvenience this may
have cuased you.

Creating a list to communicate with the signers of a
petition, where people have contributed their email addresses
for the purpose of the petition is not spamming. The addresses
are being used for no other purpose than the purpose of the
petition. A mistake in the config caused you to get a note
from an individual on the list. This was not set up as a
discussion list, rather an announce list for the petition
signers, people who provided their email addresses and
therefore could expect email communication in relation to the
petition. And that is now what is happening.

this explanation is unsatisfactory, my phone number is

BORG2
= EMAIL SPAM!!!
Without my
permission, I have been added to this project's spam list.
There was no opt-in check box when I signed the petition and
this is a massive breach of trust. I have had reports of this
from other friends, so I know that I'm not alone in this.
I would like everyone here to know that this petition
is generating SPAM from "bep@spaceship.com" and this is not
something I signed up to.
I will promptly request the
RBL add spaceship.com to their database and would like to
request that the operators of the site reverse their actions.
If this does not happen, I will contact media outlets
and make it clear that this is a spam generating process.
I could just unsubscriibe myself, but it does not
change the fact that operators of this petition is causing
